Sex Addiction/ Out-of-Control Sexual Behavior Intensive Treatment

Sex addiction—also referred to as out-of-control sexual behavior (OCSB) or compulsive sexual behavior—describes a pattern in which sexual thoughts or behaviors feel difficult to stop, are used to cope with emotional distress, and begin to negatively impact relationships, work, mental health, or personal values.

This is not about having a high sex drive. Many people with out-of-control sexual behavior feel deeply conflicted about their actions, carry significant shame, and struggle to understand why they continue behaviors they genuinely want to change. Others seek support after a rupture in trust—such as discovery of pornography use, infidelity, or secrecy—leaving both partners overwhelmed and unsure how to move forward.

What Is Out-of-Control Sexual Behavior?

Out-of-control sexual behavior occurs when sexual activity becomes repetitive or compulsive, increasingly secretive, used to regulate emotional distress, misaligned with personal values or relationship agreements, and harmful to emotional well-being or intimacy.

Common examples include compulsive pornography use, repeated affairs, excessive use of dating or hookup apps, sexual behavior interfering with work or family life, and repeated failed attempts to stop.

How I Conceptualize Sex Addiction

My approach integrates attachment-based, trauma-informed, and relational frameworks. I view sex addiction and out-of-control sexual behavior as coping strategies rooted in emotional regulation challenges, attachment wounds, chronic stress, shame cycles, and relational disconnection.

Treatment focuses on understanding the function of the behavior, building healthier regulation strategies, restoring integrity, and repairing relational trust when needed.

Individual Treatment

I work with individuals seeking to reduce compulsive sexual behavior, understand triggers, rebuild self-trust, and develop a healthier relationship with sexuality. Work may include assessment, trigger mapping, shame reduction, regulation skills, values-based recovery planning, and appropriate accountability structures.

Couples; Relationship Repair

I provide specialized support for couples affected by pornography use, infidelity, sexual secrecy, and chronic sexual disconnection. Couples work focuses on stabilization, betrayal repair, boundary clarification, rebuilding trust, and restoring emotional and sexual intimacy.

My Approach to Recovery

Recovery is compassionate, accountable, and structured. I integrate motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, attachment work, psychoeducation, and relational therapy to support sustainable change.
